I’m a Hampshire wedding photographer, just a short 40 minute drive from Somerley House, and it’s genuinely one of my favourite local wedding venues.
There’s something about Somerley that always feels effortless. It’s elegant without trying too hard, expansive without feeling overwhelming, and full of those quiet in between moments that make for the most meaningful photographs.
Somerley House weddings have this beautiful sense of space and privacy that you don’t often find. Set within thousands of acres of Hampshire parkland, the estate offers complete exclusivity, which completely changes the pace of the day in the best way. Everything feels calmer, more present, and more intentional. From the moment you arrive through the estate, it feels like you’ve stepped into your own private world for the day, where everything slows down just enough for you to actually enjoy it.
As a Somerley House wedding photographer, what I love most is how naturally the day flows here. Then there’s the wider estate, which is where Somerley really shines for photography. The Picture Gallery at Somerley House is a long, grand 19th century Georgian space, around 90 feet in length, designed to display the estate’s art collection, with tall windows, high ceilings and walls traditionally hung with paintings that give it the feel of a private museum rather than a typical room. It has become one of the most iconic spaces in the house and is often used for weddings because of its scale, symmetry and cinematic quality, with soft natural light during the day and a dramatic candlelit atmosphere in the evening.
The house itself has been used as a filming location for productions such as The Crown, Bridgerton and Red, White & Royal Blue, with the Picture Gallery often forming part of the stately interiors used for period style scenes. Couples choose it for their wedding breakfast because it creates a sense of occasion and exclusivity, allowing long banquet tables to sit comfortably within its proportions, offering a stunning backdrop for photography and film, and giving guests the feeling of dining inside a historic, private art gallery that naturally elevates the entire wedding experience.

Somerley House offers beautiful accommodation options on the estate itself, making it ideal for a relaxed wedding weekend experience where everything feels close and connected.
The House which can comfortably host the couple and key members of the wedding party. On the estate, there are also three cottages; Park Cottage (sleeps 7), The Old Salmon Hut and (sleeps 2) and The Farm House (sleeps 8). This makes it perfect for getting ready on the morning of your wedding in a calm, private setting without needing to travel.Staying on site means you can fully enjoy the estate from the night before through to the morning after, which really enhances the whole wedding experience.

Somerley House is beautifully located on the Hampshire Dorset border, surrounded by private parkland and countryside, yet still very easy for guests to access from London, the South Coast, and the wider South of England.
There is plenty of on site parking available for wedding guests, making arrival and departure smooth and stress free throughout the day.
The nearest train stations are Ringwood (limited services) and Bournemouth, which has direct links from London Waterloo. From both, taxis are readily available and the journey to the estate is a short and straightforward drive.
Every wedding at Somerley House feels completely unique, which is what makes it such an incredible venue to photograph. The scale and privacy of the estate naturally allow the day to unfold in a relaxed and unhurried way, with space for real moments to happen organically rather than feeling staged or rushed.
